"An incredible level of play": at Roland-Garros, world number 1 Jannick Sinner amazed by Nice's Loïs Boisson

Even the world number one is impressed. "The level of play she brings is incredible," said Jannik Sinner, who knows Lois Boisson well, having previously shared the same training center. For him, the 22-year-old Frenchwoman "deserves" her place in the semi-finals of Roland-Garros.

"I think the level of play she offers is incredible. Very consistent, very clay-court-like with her forehand and a lot of topspin," explained the 23-year-old Italian, who took advantage of the roof of the Philippe-Chatrier court to train in the dry with the world number 361, the surprise winner at this Roland-Garros.

"We just exchanged a few balls ," he explained. "It was a very regular warm-up against a different style of play for a woman, because the ball is quite high and very topspinned, physically she is very strong."

They were in the same training center

Sinner knows Boisson from having been "in the same center at one time" in Italy, where he sometimes trained with the Frenchwoman there.

"I saw her before the tournament at the gym in Jean-Bouin. We chatted a bit about how things were going, and she was very happy to have a wild card here. It's a special tournament for her, as a Frenchwoman ," he added.

According to him, Boisson has an "excellent mentality": "She's someone who's quite calm on the court, at least that's the impression she gives. She had knee surgery not long ago (in 2024, editor's note), so even that gives her a lot of confidence for the future, hopefully."

Her 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 victory in the quarter-final against the Russian Mirra Andreeva, world No. 6, is "incredible" for Sinner, "it's exactly what France needs, something very new, very special."

"She deserves to be in the position she is in today, and we truly wish her the best for the future," he concluded at a press conference.

Boisson will face world No. 2 Coco Gauff this Thursday for a spot in the final. The date is set!
